TaxQube™ Group

HMRC TAX Investigations

We are a firm of chartered accountants and tax advisers supporting businesses and individuals with their accounting and tax matters.

Professional help to deal with stressful times

First, we need to understand HMRC’s point of view and why they think that there is outstanding tax. We help you by acting as your professional representatives and provide you with sensible advice. Even HMRC appreciate our assistance in concluding matters with them on behalf of taxpayers.

taxqube What we can offer?

We negotiate reasonable basis to protect our client’s position. We have dealt with cases where assessments have been reduced because important information wasn’t presented to HMRC. We can establish if your penalties are incorrect and we work with HMRC on your behalf to establish the correct tax position.

If HMRC’s understanding of the matter can be clarified then we politely request to meet with them and supply further explanation. HMRC appreciate a logical approach to dealing with tax investigations and we received positive feedback from both, our clients and HMRC. Contact us today if you’d like to discuss your tax investigation and require our professional representation as your tax advisor.

taxqube How much is it?

If you are covered by the fee insurance then we send our invoices to your insurance company. Our charges depend on the length and complexity of the investigation. Please complete the “contact us” form below and contact us for a free consultation.

taxqube FAQs

Should I be worried about a tax investigation?

Not if you’ve done nothing wrong and followed sound professional advice.

Why are HMRC picking on me?

HMRC enquiries can occur randomly or because something may look odd – for which often there’s a good explanation. Or with VAT, HMRC often make enquiries if they have to pay you a refund!

How long do investigations last?

That depends – some can be cleared in one letter, more complex cases can take years.

How far back can HMRC investigate?

HMRC will investigate further back the more serious they think a case could be. If they suspect deliberate tax evasion, they can investigate as far back as 20 years. More commonly, investigations into careless tax returns can go back 6 years and investigations into innocent errors can go back up to 4 years.

Can HMRC look at my bank accounts?

HMRC has the power to obtain relevant information from taxpayers to check they’re paying the right amount of tax. This could give them the right to look at your bank account and financial information without your permission.
